Northern Light 8 Days 9 Nights

Tour Overview

This is a great time to ride, cool temps as we move from wet to dry season, epic riding conditions. Riders should be comfortable with variety of off road conditions. A more relaxed tour with some sightseeing, but also some challenging days as we cover a large portion of Cambodia. Great return trip for those who have already done the south-southwest areas, different landscape and feel here, a different side of Cambodia to experience.

Day 1

its a short and very easy exit from bustling Phnom Penh, just a quick blast from the hotel to the ferry which crosses the Tonle Sap River. Not long after that we are on the trails which lead to the picturesque river town of Kompong Cham.. home of the monumental bamboo bridge the locals rebuild at the end of each wet season.

Day 2

The low lying trails en-route to Kompong Thom should still be moist and ready to rip. A sandy/black soil combo they are traction plus and a lot of fun. Some of Cambodia’s oldest temples were built in this area, estimated a 1000 yr prior the Angkor complex. Yes we will visit a few !

Day 3

Time to divert north in a big way. Kratie (car-ra-chay) is well known as the top spot to see the pink mekong dolphins playing in said river, a small number of tourists visit each day, meaning a good selection of cafe and accommodations are nearby.

Day 4

A big one today as far as miles are concerned, different scenery, an area known for finding rubies, and an early French occupation, Ratanakiri is an outpost of sorts, the vastness of Cambodia becomes obvious as it literally opens out before our eyes.

Day 5

The gateway to Laos is a small but bustling town known as Stung Treng. Given its proximity to the border we have again a selection of accom and foods of good standard. The terrain is mountaineous but its a large plateau giving the impression its relatively flat. Some excellent remote trails.

Day 6

First up we hug the neighboring Laos border to go and see a truly amazing waterfall.. more like an ocean of whitewater miles wide, mostly flat, quite unique! From here we head to Preh Vihear, some really old temple ruins and an area bordering Thailand which is often in dispute! Quite safe as long as you know the area’s still active with land mines. Thankfully.. we do!

Day 7

Its a long day but rich in great trails, the moist sand upping the fun factor for sure! The remoteness of whence we have been finally gives way to the urban sprawl of the rightfully famous party town of Siem Reap. Fatigued as you are, wild horse’s probably wont keep you from ‘Pub Street’ and its party atmosphere. Great resturants abound and boutique bars offering good wine and spirits for those seeking tamer comforts.

Day 8

an extra night of accom is included, we highly suggest a visit to the nearby Angkor Temples.. mind blowing, even on a second or third visit. The night markets are also worth your attention. Option B is float around the pool with a steady flow of icey beers! No matter, this is a great town to conclude an epic ride.
